StitchBuddy 3.8.0 - All about colors!

Version 3.8.0 of StitchBuddy for macOS / StitchBuddy HD for iOS was just released after beta testing for over a month. It is mainly focusing on thread colors, with an additional thread chart, search capabilities for threads on iOS, and - maybe most important - support for Bernina EXP+ designs: (aka “Bernina USB EXP“).

The last improvement was tricky as Melco EXP and Bernina EXP+ designs are sharing the same file extension (although the latter comes with additional files, holding color information and thumbnails). Therefore StitchBuddy on macOS cannot distinguish the correct target file format based on your selection in the “Save As…“ dialogue, and you need to enable Bernina EXP+ in the app’s preferences. StitchBuddy HD on iOS always saves in the current file format of a design.

The following improvements are introduced with StitchBuddy 3.8.0 as free updates for all customers:

  • A quite extensive thread chart “Candle Polyester“ (more than 800 colors) was added
  • Thread charts are consistently ordered on both platforms and across vendors
  • Threads can be filtered by color name / code - handy for huge charts
  • Save as / convert to DST or EXP automatically preserve thread color information
  • Bernina EXP+ designs (aka “Bernina USB EXP”) are read with their color information
  • EXP designs can be saved as Bernina EXP+ with color information and thumbnails
  • Minor improvements and fixes

In addition I enabled printing of designs in their actual size in StitchBuddy HD ("template printing”) as an experiment: This option was disabled because the actual size of a printout couldn’t be controlled on iOS. This situation might have changed, so now you have the option to test in your environment (after a corresponding warning). Please check the printout carefully for correct sizing and report back your findings - depending on them I might disable this option, again.

Last but not least the In-App purchase of StitchBuddy HD on iOS has been renamed to “StitchBuddy Go“ to avoid confusions with the its counterpart on macOS (see previous article): Both are different products with different pricing policies, and limited to their respective apps.
