StitchBuddy HD for iPad / iPhone is entering its beta phase, introducing enhanced file management capabilities and a fresh user interface

The design’s gallery was completely reworked, now featuring a similar experience like Apple’s Files app, Numbers or Pages: Various storage locations can be accessed directly from the app, including USB drives. Operations like move / copy / delete (and even converting into other embroidery formats) can be performed with multiple files and folders selected. In addition the menu structure had been redesigned, offering a much cleaner look & feel.

I just released a new update of StitchBuddy HD (for iPhone / iPad): Version 2.3.5 will mostly catch up with recent core additions and corrections which were already incorporated into StitchBuddy for Mac:

• Gunold Poly thread chart added
• Reading VP3 designs fixed
• Janome RE36b hoop orientation corrected
• Icon preview of EXP designs added

The last one is extremely important as a redesigned StitchBuddy HD - as mentioned in this forum discussion - would rely on iOS capabilities for gallery thumbnails. Melco EXP designs were unsupported due to a conflicting file extensions (which is already claimed by some Apple system files). I was able to fix it at least for thumbnails (previews are still not supported).

Apple has just approved StitchBuddy 3.2.3 which is a small bug fix to improve the import of VP3 designs: On rare occasions threads were still positioned at wrong offsets - a topic already addressed back in 2014 (link). After some extensive testing (including beta testing by the user reporting this issue) I’m confident it’s finally fixed…

I was just made aware that StitchBuddy HD 2.19.1 is crashing when a design should be sent by mail. Actually it’s working when a PDF of the embroidery is sent, but not with the original file.

Update: A corrected version 2.19.2 was submitted and approved by Apple barely one day after the error was reported.

I just released StitchBuddy 2.19 for Mac - the update for iPadOS / iOS is still in Apple’s review process. While I changed a lot internally, preparing for some exciting features to come, the visible changes are only minor ones:

• A new thread chart (Durak Poly-Soft) was added, which is an inexpensive Turkish brand, becoming popular in Europe
• StitchBuddy is retrieving news to be shown at app launch. This option can be disabled for specific news or in general. No personal data will be used for this service (refer to privacy policy)

StitchBuddy v2.18.1 is proudly presenting the complete collection of Madeira Polyneon threads.

Madeira thread charts are supported in StitchBuddy for years, but I had to rely on public sources to list correct colors.

Last month I was contacted by a customer who wanted to use StitchBuddy in his company for coloring customized embroidery designs with Madeira Polyneon threads, and was missing some important colors. I contacted Madeira - a German thread vendor - and got a very swift and helpful response (thanks, Flavia). With this answer plus some additional research I was able to complete the Madeira Polyneon thread chart, with over 400 colors.

StitchBuddy v2.18.0 is available for macOS and iOS. It is incorporating some minor improvements, e.g. a condensed title / toolbar and fixed Automator Actions with macOS 11 “Big Sur”, and a thread list with flexible width.

But its major update is a new way to handle vendor thread charts.

Starting today you can share your StitchBuddy Pro In-App purchase with family members.

Since December 2020 Apple has extended the option to share applications and content with family members to non-consumable In-App purchases (link to “The Verge” article). If you have set up a family to jointly use apps, music or cloud storage, now it is possible to unlock In-App purchases for all registered family members without additional expenses.

I made the necessary App Store adjustments yesterday to enable family sharing for StitchBuddy Pro on macOS and iOS. Enjoy!

Yes, it’s autumn again, and - as every year - Apple has released major updates of macOS and iOS, introducing macOS 11 “Big Sur” and iOS 14.

If you’re like me you expect StitchBuddy working well with these updates, and therefore I nearly missed posting a news here.

StitchBuddy v2.17 is dramatically improving the integration with iOS 13, bringing support for “Open in place” and Quick Look.

Now you can preview and open designs from the Files app of iOS 13 without importing them in StitchBuddy’s gallery. Apple calls this method “Open in place”, and it allows a seamless integration of apps including the support of external storage locations like Dropbox, Google, or USB drives.
